Saga Dawa Festival Tour

Day by day Itinerary
Day 01 - Arrival in Kathmandu (Altitude 1300 m.)

Our representative will receive you in Airport and transfer to the hotel. Evening: Briefing about the trip.

Day 02 - Full day Sightseeing in Kathmandu city.

After breakfast start full day guided sightseeing program in Kathmandu city ( Pashupati,Boudha and swyambhunath and Durbar square).Return back to Hotel. Evening: prepare for next day trip.

Day 03 - Flight Kathmandu to Lhasa (Altitude 3650m.)

Transfer to the airport for the flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa on Air China. This one hour Trans Himalayan Flight will give you an opportunity to have an aerial view of the Mt. Everest and other Himalayan Peaks (weather permitting). Arrival at Gonggar airport around 13.30 hrs. Local time. After clearing immigration and customs it will be a two hour drive to cover the 93 km. to Lhasa which is situated at an altitude of 3650 meters (13,000ft). Upon arrival we check in at the hotel, right in the heart of the old city. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 04/05 - Lhasa Sightseeing tour.

During these three days in Lhasa we visit the Potala palace, Drepung and Sera monasteries, the Norbulinka and of course the famous Jokhang temple including the surrounding Barkhor. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 06 - Lhasa to Gyantse, (Altitude 3900m.)

You begin overland adventure with a full day drive to Gyantse. Along the way you cross the Kamba la (4794m) and the Karo la pass (5010m), both grant spectacular views. After the Kamba la you come to Yamdrok- tso, also known as the Turquoise Lake. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 07 - Gyantse to Shigatse (Altitude 3800m.)

This will be a busy day. In the morning visit Gyantse stupa and monastery followed by a two hour drive to Shigatse. Here you can see the giant Buddha in the famous Tashilumpo monastery. The seat of the Panchen Lama. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 08 - Shigatse to Lhatse or Tingri, (Altitude 4350m/4000m.)

The journey today brings you over two high passes with fine views. For lunch we stop in the small town of Lhatse. Depending on how much time we spend during the morning in Shigatse we will stay overnight in Lhatse or Tingri. Here you will meet your Nepali staff for your onward journey. Overnight at Guest House.

Day 09 - Lhatse to Saga (Altitude 4450m.)

On the first long driving day over the sandy and rocky land of Tibet, other things like lake, nomads chasing thousands of yaks and sheep keep you busy. By the late afternoon you will cross Bhramha Purtra River way to typical Chinese and Tibetan town, Saga for night. Overnight at Guest house.

Day 10 - Saga to Paryang(Altitude 4500m.)

After breakfast, drive from Saga to Paryang, around 7 hours driving cross about 225 Km. The beauty of nature will pursue you continuously, wild lives and farm animals keep you busy during the driving period. Overnight at Guest house

Day 11 - Paryang to Manasarovar (Altitude 4550m.)

After breakfast, we proceed from Paryang to Manasarovar around 7/8 hours drive.. On the way you can see and experience the life of nomads and see the beautiful grass land of Far West tibet. Magical Mt Kailash comes into view approximately 90km after the Mayum-la just before the town of HOR QU. You could see Manasarovar Lake on the way to Kailash.You can relax around the lake shore and experience the natural beauty of the lake. In the summer time, flocks of swans will gather on the lake, bringing grace and life to the area. You can also see so many Tibetans and Hindus praying and circling around the lake shore for the whole day. Overnight at Guest house

Day 12 - Manasarovar to Darchen (Altitude 4560m.)

Early morning: visit Manasarovar lake (Devotees take deep bath and o worship). Then drive to Darchen takes about 2 hours. Darchen is the starting and completion point for the general circuit of the sacred mountain. It is wise to spend at least a day acclimatizing and making final preparations. Overnight at Guest House.

Day 13 - 21 May 2016: Attend Saga Dawa festival at Tarboche (Altitude 4630m.) on full moon day.

Early morning, we walk about 8 kilometer to Tarboche. The Saga Dawa Festival celebrates the day Lord Buddha Sakyamuni was born, achieved enlightenment and passed away. For over a thousand years pilgrims flock to Mt Kailash to replace the Tarboche flagpole, a huge pole that stands on the Kailash kora, south of the mountain. The whole ceremony is led by a Lama from the nearby monastery and Tibetans and Buddhists gather here that day to attach their prayer flags they brought from home, to pray, and to help erect the flagpole. Overnight at Camp.

Day 14 - Tarboche to Dirapuk(Altitude 4950m.)

This is the first day of the Kailash Parikrama/Kora. We start our Parikrama after breakfast as earlier as possible. We wal up the Lha Chu valley thourgh beautiful green meadows and strams with Mt Kailash towering above us. We follow the river which enters a narrow canyon with high, steep cliffs and spectacular waterfalls. Yaks will carry our all-essential equipments. Overnight at Camp.

Day 15 - Driaphuk to Zuthulpuk (Altitude 4750m.)

This day is very sensitive and we have to pass Dolma-La (5,670m) above sea level. The weather is unpredictable in Dolma-La and any time can change and start to snow storm. It’s tough climb to the summit which is festooned with prayer flags but from there it is all downhill or flat to Zuhtulpuk. So we try to start our journey as earlier as possible. In route, we can see Gaurikunda. But it is very difficult to go and touch. There are several meditation caves in Zuthulpuk. Overnight at Camp

Day 16 - Zuthulpuk to Manasarovar

On the final day of the kora / Parikrama we cross several streams, and follow an impressive gorge. Along the way we are once again treated to magnificent views of Mt Kailash. We then enter the Bharka plain and it's about an hour's walk through this desert landscape to Darchen. Our vehicles await us, and take us back to Lake Manasarovar. Overnight at Camp/Guest house.

Day 17 - Manasarovar to Saga

Drive from Manasarover to saga takes about 9 to 10 hours. Overnight at Saga Guest house.

Day 18 - Saga to Nylam

Drive to Nylam. Overnight at Guest House.

Day 19 - Nylam to Kathmandu

After clearing the boarder formalities our Nepal part will pick up you from boarder by tourist coach and continue proceeds to Kathmandu, check in to same hotel. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day 20 - Final Departure

After breakfast, Airport transfer for final departure.
